FRESHMAN Seminar

-  Do something today that your future self will thank you for.  -

This semester course has been designed to help students make the most out of their high school experience while earning 2.5 Career and Technical credits toward their graduation requirement. The course begins with investigation into strengths, weaknesses and interests. Students explore what it means to be a 21st Century learner and ways to make the most out of their skills, interests and abilities. The course continues with getting to know the people and resources Randolph High School students have at their disposal that can help them maximize their time here.

Freshmen work closely with the Tomorrow’s Leaders, a group of upperclassmen, who went through an application and selection process who have proven to be leaders in the school community. They supplement our class topics with activities and lessons of their own that help freshmen transition by offering advice about navigating the changes that come with being a high school student. Students engage in experiential projects that encourage students to further explore both their professional and academic interests and skills. These projects encourage students to utilize different resources and individuals in our community to successfully plan and execute a long-term project directed by freshman students.

Examples of past projects include a Freshmen led transition program for incoming 8th grade students, elementary school presentations about respect, fundraising event to purchase materials for sick children at Morristown Memorial Hospital, and a drive to collect food and goods to be delivered to the Morristown Soup Kitchen.
